The Story Behind the NTN Name

The brand name NTN was created from the initials of three key figures who shaped the company:

N – for Noboru Niwa, investor and first president

T – for Tomoe Trading Co., early sales partner

N – for Jiro Nishizono, leading engineer

Originally founded as NTN Mfg. Co., Ltd., the company was later renamed Toyo Bearing Mfg. Co., Ltd. – “Toyo” means “the Orient.” Since the name change in 1989, NTN stands for “New Technology Network” – a symbol of our global connectivity and focus on forward-looking technologies.
